Consulting Mining Engineer
David Duke has worked as a consulting mining engineer in both open cut and underground metalliferous mines for more than 10 years. With 20 years’ experience in the mining industry and specialising in Drilling and blasting practices and processes. David is a Director for Prism Mining Pty Ltd and also a Director of Fromble Corp Pty Ltd. He has worked with clients that include Xstrata, BHP Billiton, Newcrest ,Oz Minerals, MMG, Newmont, Metals X, many smaller mining companies and several mining contractors (Byrnecut, Macmahons, Brandrill). Explosives work with Dyno Nobel, MNK and Downer EDI Mining & Blasting Services.
Previous experience in operational mines including Senior mining engineer, technical superintendent, Pit superintendent, Underground Mine Manager, Backfill Manager, D&B superintendent, technical support and research roles with explosive suppliers.
David has a wide range of mining experience, with strong presentation and communication skills, a practical approach to process of mining, planning and improvement. He is particularly focussed on the improvement of blasting and mine planning in order to maximise value within the overall mining and recovery process.
Recent experiences with management consultation within corporate structures to ensure focus on Business Excellence and process improvement has lead to significant productivity and cost improvement.

- Consulting Drill & Blast Services
Determine blast parameters for improved blast performance, changing conditions, or the control of environmental impact. Review and assess blast designs, blast management systems and operating practices. Audit for compliance with standards and procedures, and the identification of improvement opportunities. Act as expert witness in the drill and blast issues.
- Supervision and Management of the Drill & Blast Process
Manage drill & blast operations. Planning, scheduling and monitoring of drill & blast processes to ensure compliance with designs and regulations. Supervise the introduction of new products and processes. David is experienced in the roles of D&B Engineer and Shotfirer.
- Process Improvement
Considerable experience in the practical mining of ore and waste materials has led to significant gains in the projects undertaken. Specific training of engineers through onsite education and mentoring in business productivity and process improvement.
Specialist review of feasibility studies and project plans has eliminated significant shortcomings and improved site compliance to outlined goals.
